“International Symposium on Catalysis, Sustainable Materials and Technology for Future Collaboration” with former team members. Group Photo
In the JST Strategic Creative Research Promotion Project (CREST), we developed new iron-based catalysts for quantitative conversion (chemical recycling) of polyesters by depolymerization (transesterification) with alcohols. The research results were published in the American Chemical Society’s AACS Sustainable Resource Management (Most Read article).

Prof. Nomura received The Society of Polymer Science, Japan Award (Sceince field) , “Synthesis of New Polymers by Olefin Metathesis Polymerization Using Transition Metal Complex Catalysts”
Mr. Muhammad Aidel Bin Ratno Hadiyono (exchange student, Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak Branch, Malaysia) stayed in the laboratory for exchange for one month.
Prof. Siti Fairus Mohd Yusoff (associate professor, UKM, Malaysia) stayed for ca. one week for giving lecture and research collaboration.
2023
Ms. Jiang Youshu and Mr. Gaku Miyamoto received the Excellent Poster Award at the Asian Polyolefin Workshop 2023 (APO2023). The research on “Syndiospecific Polymerization of Trialkylsilylstyrene and the Ethylene Copolymerization by Half-Titanocene Catalysts” and “Synthesis and Characterization of Biobased Polymers with Long-chain Fatty Acids and Oligopeptides as Component Unit” were recognized as excellent, respectively. Out of 57 reviews, Mr. Jiang was rated 1st and Mr. Miyamoto was rated 3rd.

The research results of the organic chemistry laboratory were introduced in the virtual special issue “Trends in Applied Organometallic Chemistry” of the American Chemical Society’s journal Organometallics. This is a paper on the design and synthesis of high-performance vanadium molecular catalysts that enable the synthesis of stereoregular polymers.

Ms. KAEWNOI Thanyathorn and Ms. PARAMANURAK Kantarattana came to Japan from Thailand and newly joined our laboratory.
In the JST Strategic Creative Research Promotion Project (CREST), we developed bio-based polyester from non-edible plant resources that can be decomposed and recycled, and is more flexible and stronger than general-purpose plastics. The research results were published in the American Chemical Society’s ACS Macro Letters. It was featured as the most accessed (Most Read) paper in the same magazine.

A fire broke out on the 5th floor directly above our laboratory on December 4, affecting fire extinguishing activities. However, most of the large experimental equipment was safe without any injuries.
